Sous Chef – Join Basta’s New Opening in Västerås

About the role

Basta is opening a new Italian‑style restaurant in Västerås and is looking for a hands‑on Sous Chef to support the Head Chef. You will help keep the kitchen organised, maintain high food quality, and ensure smooth service during busy periods.

Key responsibilities

• Support food preparation, production and service across the kitchen.
• Ensure dishes are prepared and presented to recipe, portion and quality standards.
• Monitor food quality during service and correct issues as they arise.
• Train, coach and support back‑of‑house team members.
• Lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence.
• Assist with ordering, stock control, waste management and food‑cost awareness.
• Maintain hygiene, health & safety and kitchen compliance standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or strong CDP ready for the next step.
• Experience working in busy, high‑volume restaurant kitchens.
• Strong attention to detail around food quality, preparation, presentation and standards.
• Calm, hands‑on leadership style with the ability to support the team during service.
• Good understanding of hygiene, food safety, stock control and waste management.
• Excellent time‑management skills and ability to stay organised under pressure.
