Senior Project Engineer – Control & Protection Software, Sequence & Interlocking HVDC

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY SWEDEN AB is looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer for its Sequence & Interlocking team within HVDC Control & Protection, based in Ludvika, Sweden. The team defines the logic that keeps HVDC stations operating safely and correctly, developing interlocking principles, automated switching sequences and operating states. The role suits someone who wants to own technical solutions, influence engineering decisions and contribute to the future of HVDC technology.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop Sequence & Interlocking solutions for HVDC Control & Protection systems.
• Turn system and customer requirements into robust operational logic and engineering solutions.
• Work with system design, control, protection, testing and commissioning teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Take technical ownership of specific functions, systems or project areas.
• Verify and validate solutions through testing, troubleshooting and system integration, and support commissioning.
• Drive technical discussions internally and with customers.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to future methods, tools and technical solutions.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, Power Systems or a related discipline.
• Several years of experience with complex technical systems.
• Experience in HVDC, FACTS, substation automation, protection and control systems, industrial automation or power systems is expected; experience with commissioning, protection systems, relay applications, operational sequencing or HVDC projects is highly valued.
• Strong analytical skills, ability to challenge assumptions and a structured, curious approach to engineering.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively.
• Professional communication skills in English.
