About the role
This MSc thesis project focuses on acoustic simulation of ABB Dynafin marine propulsion blades. You will work within the Materials Technology & Electromagnetics team at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden, developing CFD models and hydro‑acoustic assessments to reduce noise and cavitation.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a literature study on the acoustic profile of the Dynafin system.
- Develop and run CFD models of the blade system using simulation tools.
- Analyse hydrodynamic and cavitation‑induced noise during operation.
- Compare alternative blade designs and propose optimisation recommendations.
Required profile
- Master of Science student in Aerospace, Mechanical, Engineering Physics or a related field.
- Experience with fluid mechanics and CFD.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Required skills
- CFD expertise (ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, OpenFOAM or similar).
- Signal processing competence.
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics and hydrodynamic noise analysis.
