Master's Thesis: Reversible Adhesives for Circular Design

About the role

ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden, is offering a master's thesis (less than 30 ECTS, about one semester) in the Materials Technology & Electromagnetics team, reporting to the R&D Team Lead. The project focuses on reversible adhesives that allow products to be de-bonded at the end of their service life, supporting circular design and better recycling.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate adhesive formulations based on chemical, thermal and adhesive properties.
• Assess de-bonding performance on selected disassembly processes.
• Work on the topic of reversible adhesive for debonding of permanent magnets.

Required profile

• MSc degree in material design, chemical engineering, polymer chemistry, organic chemistry or biochemistry.
• Ability to work independently under supervision to reach agreed targets.
• Experience designing polymeric formulations and running adhesive experiments.
• Good oral and written English.

The thesis runs from January to June 2027, is based at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås and can be done full or part time. Applications are made through the ABB career site with CV, transcripts and a cover letter in English.
