Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer - HVDC

About the role

Hitachi Energy Sweden is looking for a Senior Mechanical Plant Design Engineer in its Plant Engineering department, based in Ludvika or Västerås, Sweden. The role works in a collaborative engineering environment covering electrical, mechanical, civil and structural engineering, with a primary focus on mechanical design. It contributes to HVDC station design through engineering design, planning, risk assessments, resource coordination and technical project execution.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical plant design for complex HVDC projects and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering
• Develop robust, cost-effective technical solutions in line with customer requirements, contracts, budgets and schedules
• Drive engineering deliverables and support testing, installation and commissioning
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality requirements and risk mitigation
• Prepare work plans, cost estimates and engineering schedules, and support scope and budget reviews
• Work with project teams, tender teams, customers, contractors, authorities and supply chain partners
• Mentor and review junior engineers and share technical best practices

Required profile

• Ideally experience in mechanical plant design, preparing documents and design concepts aligned with customer needs, standards and internal guidelines
• Experience or interest in 3D modelling of equipment layouts and BIM coordination
• Familiarity with cost estimates such as bills of quantities and engineering hours
• Good written and spoken English and willingness to collaborate across cultures and disciplines

Required skills

• Beneficial: electrical power transformation systems knowledge, 3D modelling, BIM coordination
• Beneficial: CAD tools such as Siemens NX and Revit, and PLM systems such as Teamcenter
