Principal Research Engineer – RAN Software Architect

About the role

Huawei Sweden R&D is looking for a highly accomplished Principal Research Engineer to lead strategic exploration of future wireless technologies. Based in Kista, you will drive technology scouting, research direction, and architectural design for next‑generation RAN baseband systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead research on end‑to‑end architecture of high‑performance L2/L3 systems, including User Plane Control and MAC Scheduler.
• Architect scalable, low‑latency, high‑throughput software frameworks for next‑generation RAN.
• Drive software‑algorithm and software‑hardware co‑design across heterogeneous compute platforms (CPU, DSP, ASIC, accelerators).
• Optimize parallel processing, pipeline design, memory hierarchy, lock‑free/concurrent systems, and data‑path acceleration.
• Identify and resolve system‑level bottlenecks through profiling, modeling, and performance validation.
• Contribute to long‑term technical roadmaps and evaluate emerging technologies with proof‑of‑concept development.

Required profile

• Proven expertise in wireless RAN software architecture and system‑on‑chip innovations.
• Strong research background with experience in academic collaboration, literature review, and industry engagement.
• Ability to translate research findings into actionable technical strategies and solution frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills to work with project managers, designers, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
