Job description
About the role
Join ABB’s R&D team to conduct experimental research on protection schemes for inverter‑dominated AC microgrids. This master‑thesis project will explore how conventional fault detection methods perform in modern microgrid environments.
Key responsibilities
- Study digital protection relays and standard AC circuit protection functions for motors, transformers and feeders.
- Install and configure 2‑3 protection relays in an existing microgrid laboratory setup.
- Define a test plan, execute fault‑scenario experiments, and evaluate detection behaviour.
Required profile
- Master‑level student in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Energy Technology or a related field.
- Analytical mindset with interest in both theoretical analysis and hands‑on laboratory work.
Required skills
- Knowledge of digital protection relays and IEC‑61850 protocol.
- Experience with microgrid laboratory equipment and fault‑detection testing.
