Development Engineer – Heat Pumps (Refrigeration Technology)

About the role

As a Development Engineer you will drive innovation and optimisation of refrigeration circuits for next‑generation heat‑pump systems. You will work from concept through validation, ensuring system performance meets customer expectations while collaborating with cross‑functional teams and suppliers in an international, agile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and select refrigeration components based on system requirements.
• Collaborate with suppliers to adapt components to project needs.
• Own system performance KPIs and monitor results.
• Develop and execute test plans to verify targets.
• Perform simulations to iterate designs and solve technical challenges.
• Explore new concepts and support patent applications.
• Lead or participate in safety strategies, risk assessments and lifecycle improvement projects.
• Contribute to internal know‑how, train colleagues and shape technical roadmaps.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering or a related field, preferably with a focus on thermodynamics or refrigeration.
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and refrigeration principles.
• Experience selecting, testing and validating refrigeration components and systems.
• Comfortable working in a laboratory environment with test rigs and measurement tools.
• Ability to read and write technical documentation and specifications.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as Dymola or MATLAB/Simulink (a plus).
• Understanding of relevant standards (EN14511, EN14825, Ecodesign, F‑Gas, PED) is valued.
• Awareness of agile development processes is a plus.
