Advanced Materials Business Development Manager

About the role

The Advanced Materials Business Development Manager will lead 3M’s cross‑service materials growth campaigns, shaping demand before requirements are formally defined and converting that influence into funded programs. This senior position works closely with business units, OEMs, government agencies, and internal technical teams to position 3M’s capabilities across multiple platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end technical campaigns, driving strategy from early shaping through funded program execution.
• Win requirements and programs of record by positioning 3M’s capabilities in specifications, qualified product lists, and incumbency expansions.
• Seed early demand by engaging user communities, material commands, program offices, OEMs, and innovation ecosystems such as DARPA and DIU.
• Run parallel government qualification tracks and OEM design‑in tracks for the same capability.
• Maintain a disciplined campaign pipeline using Salesforce CRM, providing regular maturity and funding reviews.
• Build and sustain relationships with program offices, primes/OEMs, science and technology communities, and internal Customer Account Managers.
• Deliver executive‑level briefings, proposals, and strategic engagement plans to senior stakeholders.
• Partner with technical and science‑technology teams to translate materials capabilities into value propositions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading complex, multi‑disciplinary business development or growth campaigns.
• Strong understanding of government and commercial qualification processes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
• Ability to influence early‑stage demand and convert it into funded programs.
