Senior Baseband System Engineer

About the role

Huawei Sweden R&D is looking for a senior engineer to lead the research, architecture definition and performance evolution of next‑generation wireless baseband systems. You will work on end‑to‑end system design for 5G‑Advanced and future 6G products, collaborating with algorithm researchers, DSP designers and hardware teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define end‑to‑end baseband architectures, translate product requirements into compute, latency, memory and power targets.
• Analyze advanced wireless algorithms (Massive MIMO, beamforming, coding, HARQ, link adaptation) and map workloads to hardware accelerators.
• Perform system‑level performance modelling, identify bottlenecks and drive optimisation across CPU, DSP, ASIC and accelerator subsystems.
• Investigate emerging technologies for 5G‑Advanced/6G, evaluate new concepts through proof‑of‑concept studies and contribute to long‑term roadmaps.

Required profile

• PhD, MSc or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience in wireless baseband processing and system architecture.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work across algorithm, software and hardware domains.
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of 4G/5G NR, Layer 1, Massive MIMO, beamforming, coding, HARQ and link adaptation.
• Experience with baseband system architecture, real‑time processing and heterogeneous computing.
• Understanding of CPU/DSP/ASIC/accelerator architectures, memory hierarchy and hardware/software partitioning.
• Proficiency in performance modelling, workload analysis and software‑hardware co‑design.
• Familiarity with RISC‑V, domain‑specific accelerators, advanced DSPs, chiplets and AI/ML techniques for wireless.
