About the role
ABB is seeking a master’s thesis student to investigate how design decisions affect automated assembly of control cabinets. The work will support ABB’s Robotics business in creating more automation‑friendly products.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze current design and development processes from a manufacturing perspective.
- Identify design‑related barriers to automation and propose improvements.
- Investigate how digital tools (CAD, simulation, AI) can support design optimisation and virtual validation.
Required profile
- Enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation or related fields.
- Interest in product design, manufacturing systems, automation and robotics.
- Curious, analytical, hands‑on and able to work independently on complex problems.
Required skills
- Proficiency with CAD tools.
- Experience with simulation software.
- Basic knowledge of AI concepts for design optimisation.
