Job description
About the role
ABB is seeking a master‑level student to conduct experimental investigations on electric powertrains within microgrids. The work supports the development of stable and resilient microgrid systems by studying the interaction between a motor‑generator setup and the grid.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build a back‑to‑back motor‑generator test bench, connecting the motor directly to an AC microgrid and the generator to a programmable torque load.
- Commission the setup, verify torque behaviour, and create a test plan to evaluate transient responses under various disturbance scenarios.
- Optionally, experimentally assess the impact of machine inertia and short‑circuit capacity on microgrid frequency and voltage stability.
Required profile
- Master student in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Energy Technology or a related field.
- Analytical, structured mindset with curiosity for both theory and hands‑on laboratory work.
Required skills
- Knowledge of electric machines and drives.
- Understanding of electric power systems and power electronics.
