Master Thesis: Data-Driven Compaction Indicator for Vibratory Plate Compactors

About the role

Husqvarna Construction is looking for two master's students to carry out a thesis on developing a methodology for a machine-data-driven compaction indicator for vibratory plate compactors. The work sits within the Compaction & Concrete Vibration R&D team, which designs, tests and builds compaction and concrete vibration equipment. The thesis is worth 30 ECTS points, starts in January 2027 and closes on 15 November 2026.

Key responsibilities

• Study existing compaction indicators and their sensors
• Select candidate sensors and machine parameters for instrumentation
• Collect data under varying soil conditions, pass counts and machine types
• Evaluate the data and look for patterns
• Develop a methodology for a data-driven compaction indicator based on the findings

Required profile

• Preferred master's programme in Mechatronics, Machine Design, Systems, Control and Mechatronics or a similar field
• Knowledge of structural dynamics and vibrations
• Knowledge of mechatronics and instrumentation
• Interest in data-driven methods such as data analysis, machine learning or optimisation
