Economic and Statistical Research Director

About the role

Nasdaq's European Markets group offers a senior position combining research leadership and hands-on quantitative analysis. The Economic and Statistical Research (ESR) team provides data and analytical support focused on the stock market, covering ETPs, EQD and fixed income, as well as Listings and Market Data products. ESR has two teams, Quant Research and Market Statistics. This role leads the Quant Research team, producing insights for internal stakeholders, client meetings and senior executives.

Key responsibilities

• Produce new insights and high-quality research on market microstructure, pricing and financial market regulation
• Contribute to initiatives and projects with quantitative and qualitative analysis and recommendations for senior management
• Identify topics for analysis and innovation to improve market quality, revenues and the European market structure and regulation
• Lead and develop a team of senior quantitative researchers, setting direction and priorities
• Build relationships with key stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly
• Own the research technology stack and drive improvements to the team's capabilities and processes

Required profile

• Advanced degree, preferably PhD, in Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Economics or equivalent
• 10+ years of relevant experience
• Expertise in market microstructure and the European market structure
• Strong statistical programming skills in Python, R or similar, with level 3 exchange data
• Experience producing decision material for senior management and fluent English
• Preferred: background as a quantitative researcher in a trading environment, team management experience, SQL (Amazon Redshift), cloud services (AWS, Redshift), agentic AI for data analysis, production environment experience and knowledge of regulated markets, MTFs, SIs and banks
