Development Engineer – Heat Pumps (Refrigeration Technology)

About the role

As a Development Engineer you will drive innovation and optimisation of refrigeration circuits for next‑generation heat pump systems at Bosch Thermotechnology in Tranås, Sweden. You will work from concept through validation, ensuring performance meets customer expectations in an international, agile environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and select refrigeration components based on system requirements.
• Collaborate with suppliers to adapt components to project needs.
• Own system performance KPIs and develop test plans to verify targets.
• Perform simulations and iterate designs to solve technical challenges.
• Develop new concepts, support patent applications and contribute to safety strategies, risk assessments and lifecycle improvement projects.
• Build internal know‑how, train colleagues and shape technical roadmaps.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering or a related field with focus on thermodynamics or refrigeration.
• Hands‑on problem solver with analytical, detail‑oriented mindset.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and communicate clearly in an international, cross‑functional team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and refrigeration.
• Experience selecting, testing and validating refrigeration components and systems.
• Proficiency with lab test rigs and measurement tools.
• Familiarity with simulation tools such as Dymola, MATLAB/Simulink.
• Understanding of technical standards EN14511, EN14825, Ecodesign, F‑Gas, PED.
• Awareness of agile development processes.
